Phones, for instance, are split between by two rival platforms, Apple{emj_ip_}s iOS and Google{emj_ip_}s Android. Nest is a closed, proprietary ecosystem built with meticulous design and care; SmartThings is open-source, so anyone can develop products within its platform. And, somehow, the idea of debating about which company{emj_ip_}s ecosystem controls our home seems even more depressing than arguing over our phones.
